The Civic Holiday long weekend is shaping up to be a busy one across Niagara Region, with festivals and live music drawing visitors to Port Colborne, St. Catharines and Welland.

Port Colborne marks the return of Canal Days, one of the summer's biggest draws in the city. The festival includes live music and tall ship rides, with activities spread through the downtown core and along the waterfront, according to Niagara Daily News.

Music, ribs and harbour views

In St. Catharines, the annual Rotary Ribfest is back at Montebello Park, giving residents a familiar summer tradition close to home.

Welland rounds out the weekend lineup with its Concerts on the Canal series, which features performer Spencer McKenzie tonight, July 31, Niagara Daily News reported.

What's open Monday

Monday, Aug. 3, is not a statutory holiday in Ontario, but it is widely observed across the province. That distinction matters for anyone planning errands or outings on the final day of the long weekend.

Some businesses and services will adjust their hours or close for the day, while many stores, including grocery stores, are expected to remain open in most cases.

Anyone unsure whether a specific business will be open is advised to call ahead before heading out.

With events running in three cities, expect busier than usual conditions around festival sites and waterfront areas through the weekend.
