A new community partnership is linking music, art and youth support services in Niagara. The Cicada Music & Arts Festival has teamed up with the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre in a collaboration the festival says is rooted in shared values of creativity, healing and community impact.
Through the partnership, Cicada will help support music programming at Camp Acorn, the Centre's trauma-informed day camp for children and youth, according to the Niagara Daily News, which first reported the announcement.
A fall festival on Henley Island
The festival is scheduled for October 2 and 3 on Henley Island in St. Catharines. Organizers have lined up a weekend of live music, art installations and local vendors, with headliners including Metric, USS, Bahamas and Wintersleep.
The island venue sits along the Martindale Pond waterfront in Port Dalhousie and has long been associated with the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta, giving the festival a distinctive outdoor setting within the city.
Supporting children and youth
The Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre provides support services for children and youth who have experienced abuse, and Camp Acorn forms part of its programming. The new arrangement will direct festival support toward music-based activities at the camp.
For festivalgoers, the partnership means the October event will carry a community dimension alongside its musical lineup, with proceeds and programming connected to a local organization serving young people across the region.
Details about tickets and the full festival schedule have not yet been released. Niagara Voice will provide updates as more information becomes available.
