Owners of designated heritage properties in Grimsby can now apply for matching grants of up to $5,000 to help preserve the town's historic buildings, according to a Town of Grimsby news release.

The Heritage Property Grant Program is now in its third year and provides financial assistance for eligible restoration and maintenance projects on designated heritage properties.

The Town says the program reflects its ongoing commitment to preserving Grimsby's heritage and encouraging the long-term protection of culturally significant spaces.

Past recipients have used the funding for a range of work, including exterior woodwork repairs, painting, slate roof repairs, porch restoration and masonry repointing.

Grant recipients are expected to complete the funded work within 12 months.

Applications are due by Nov. 6, 2026 at 4:30 p.m. Forms and supporting documents are available on the Town's website at www.grimsby.ca/parks-recreation-and-culture/history-and-heritage/heritage-properties/.

Completed applications can be submitted by mail to Heritage Planning at Town Hall, 160 Livingston Ave., Grimsby, or by email at heritage@grimsby.ca.

A selection committee will review the submissions and recommend recipients, with results announced following council approval. The Town expects to award four to seven grants.

The Town describes the program as a partnership with property owners to safeguard the architectural and cultural legacy that defines Grimsby, noting that protecting cultural heritage strengthens community identity and delivers educational and economic benefits.
