A section of Oille Street in Fonthill will be completely closed to traffic this Friday as the Town of Pelham carries out an emergency culvert replacement.

According to a notice from the Town of Pelham, the closure will affect the stretch of road between Effingham Street and Oille Street, as well as between Oille Street and Wessel Drive. Work is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, with crews on site from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The town says the shutdown is needed so workers can replace an emergency cross culvert, an underground drainage structure that carries water beneath the roadway. The contract has been awarded to Anthony's Excavating Central Inc.

Because the work involves digging into the road itself, no through traffic will be able to pass through the affected sections while crews are operating. Drivers who normally use Oille Street as a connection between Effingham Street and Wessel Drive will need to find alternate routes for the day.

Residents in the immediate area may also notice construction noise, heavy equipment and limited access to driveways near the work zone during the scheduled hours. The town has asked residents in the affected area to watch for a notice delivered directly to their homes with further details.

The town acknowledged the closure will be inconvenient and said crews will work to finish the job as quickly as possible to keep disruption to a minimum. It thanked residents in advance for their patience and cooperation.

Anyone with questions can contact the Town of Pelham at 905-892-2607 or through its municipal office at 20 Pelham Town Square in Fonthill. The town also encourages residents to sign up for its eNewsletters to receive future news and alerts about road closures, programs and town operations.

Assuming weather and site conditions allow the work to proceed as planned, the road is expected to reopen to traffic once crews wrap up Friday evening.
