St. Catharines families can pick up a free pumpkin, take part in fall activities and visit the animals at Happy Rolph’s when Pumpkinville returns on Saturday, Oct. 17. The city is encouraging visitors to use a free shuttle because parking at the farm is limited.

The event, now in its 38th year, will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Happy Rolph’s Animal Farm, 650 Read Rd., according to the City of St. Catharines.

Planned activities include a photobooth, LEGO printmaking and a scavenger hunt. Visitors will also have opportunities to meet special Toy Story characters and Bones, the Niagara IceDogs mascot.

The pumpkin giveaway is limited to one per family. Pumpkins will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

Shuttle service and food options

The free park-and-ride shuttle will operate from the Grantham Lions Club at 732 Niagara St. Service begins at 9:45 a.m., ahead of the event’s opening, and continues until 2:15 p.m., after activities finish.

With limited parking available on site, the city is asking attendees to make use of that service. The shuttle’s operating window gives visitors an option for travelling to and from the farm throughout the event.

Tim Hortons will offer hot chocolate and Timbits. Food will also be available for purchase from local businesses, including Johnny Rocco’s Italian Grill, Country Boys Mobile Food Services, and Butter & Creme Bakery and Barbecue.

Fire safety and a final animal visit

St. Catharines Fire Services will take part in Pumpkinville as part of the city’s Fire Prevention Month activities. Fire service staff will provide information about fire prevention and fire safety.

The St. Catharines Public Library will also attend, with its participation aimed at young readers and visitors interested in creative activities.

Community and Events Supervisor Brianne Wilson said the annual celebration brings families, friends and neighbours together, and that the city looks forward to welcoming visitors back to Happy Rolph’s.

For families hoping to see the farm animals before the season ends, Pumpkinville also provides a final opportunity to visit them this year. The animals will return to their winter homes after the season.
