Three students from Governor Simcoe Secondary School in St. Catharines have won first place at Niagara Regional Police’s 2026 FilmFest for a public service announcement about trafficking, CHCH reported.
The student filmmakers are Callum Green, Colton Orr and Mariia Avdieieva. Their winning entry brought recognition to the St. Catharines school through a police initiative focused on youth conversations and awareness.
The three students and Niagara Regional Police Deputy Chief Mario Lagrotteria discussed the initiative on CHCH’s Morning Live.
According to CHCH, FilmFest aims to encourage young people to have meaningful discussions while building awareness, empathy and community engagement. The students’ trafficking PSA earned the top placing in this year’s competition.
