A 65-year-old woman from St. Catharines is in life-threatening condition after a collision involving a power-assisted bicycle in the Town of Lincoln on Thursday evening.
According to the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS), uniform officers from 8 District — which covers Grimsby, Lincoln and West Lincoln — responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision with injuries on Spiece Road, roughly 400 metres north of Fly Road, at about 7:50 p.m. on July 30.
Investigators determined that two riders, both 65-year-old women from St. Catharines, were travelling northbound on power-assisted bicycles when one of them lost control and fell.
The injured rider was taken to an out-of-region hospital, where she remained in life-threatening condition as of the police release. The second rider was not reported injured.
Police have not said whether any other vehicle was involved in the incident, which was initially reported as a motor vehicle collision with injuries.
Members of the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit attended the scene and have taken over the investigation. The unit is called in for serious collisions that require detailed scene analysis and measurement.
