Welland Stadium is getting the largest video board in the Intercounty Baseball League. The Welland Jackfish announced the new display will be installed in left-centre field to replace the existing scoreboard.
The board measures 16.95 feet high by 28.35 feet wide, and roughly doubles the size of the Jackfish's current display, according to a post on the Welland Jackfish website.
A city facility getting a major upgrade
The Nevco board will feature what the club describes as the most advanced screen technology in the industry, built around True Pixel Technology for sharper image reproduction than traditional virtual shared technology.
Fans at the ballpark, known to Jackfish supporters as the Pond, can expect live video, replays, graphics and animations on a full 24-bit true-colour, high-resolution screen.
This is a great partnership that brings a state-of-the-art upgrade to a City facility.
That's how Welland Mayor Frank Campion described the project. He said the city is pleased to help bring the fan experience at Welland Stadium to life.
The Scoreboard Man, a Canadian company that has been in the scoreboard and display business since 1971, will handle the installation.
A home run for Jackfish fans
"Bringing in the latest technology and doubling the size of our board makes this an absolute Home Run for Jackfish fans," Jackfish President Ryan Harrison said in the announcement.
Harrison credited the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games and the City of Welland as partners on the ballpark enhancement, saying the project would not have been possible without their continued support of the community. He said the league's largest video display will take the fan experience at Welland Stadium to an entirely new level.
Doug Hamilton, board chair of the Niagara 2022 Host Society, said the organization is proud to play a role in delivering the new video board, which he said will enhance the experience for fans who come out to watch the Jackfish.
More than baseball
The club says the high-tech addition opens the door to more non-baseball uses for the stadium, including movie nights and live streaming of events.
The investment continues a long-term commitment to the ballpark. In March, the Jackfish announced a six-year lease with the City of Welland that keeps the team at Welland Stadium through at least the end of the 2026 season, with part of the lease extending an additional six years beyond that.

The Jackfish play in the Intercounty Baseball League, a summer league founded in 1919 and one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world.
